Directions to our house:
Fly to Myrtle Beach (MYR) or Wilmington (WIL), and you will have an easy drive to
Southport. Brunswick County Airport is very close, for persons with private planes.
Taxi service is available from all three airports. From the Raleigh/Durham airport
(RDU), it is an easy two-hour drive to Wilmington, via Highway 40. Watch for the
401 by-pass to Brunswick County Beaches, shortly before you get to Wilmington.
From Highway 17: Highways 211, 87, and 133 all lead to Southport and bring
you to Howe Street. Drive south past Dosher Memorial Hospital. There is a
stoplight on 9th Street. Turn right on 9th and proceed to the end, by Southport
Elementary School. Turn left on Maple, and shortly you will enter Indigo Plantation.
Dutchman Creek Road is on the right. Enter Dutchman Creek Road and proceed
to the very end. Our house is set back in the woods and our driveway is like a
continuation of the road. There is ample parking by our home.
From Kure Beach or Carolina Beach, you can have a pleasant trip to
Southport via the Southport-Fort Fisher ferry. The ferry costs $5.00 per car, each
way. You should expect the trip to take a little over an hour: 10 minutes to drive to
the ferry, 15 - 45 minutes to wait in line, 30 minutes for the ferry ride, and 10
minutes to reach our home. In the summer months you need to be in line well
ahead of time to be assured of a spot on the ferry. We recommend you plan to
catch an earlier ferry than the one required to get you to our boat at the
scheduled time. You can sight see in Southport if you arrive early.
Once you get off the ferry, proceed on Ferry Road to the traffic circle, and then
turn on Moore Street. There will be a stop light at Howe Street. Turn right at Howe
and drive north to 9th Street. From there, turn left and follow the directions above
to our home.
