Meet your Minister
Rev. Dr. Carolyn Pryor has a variety of skills that make
her ministry unique. Before moving to North Carolina in
2000, she was an Associate Professor of Social Work at
Wayne State University in Detroit and a school social
worker for Dearborn Public Schools.
After moving to North Carolina, Carolyn was licensed as
a clinical social worker and also became a Coast Guard
Captain, starting the Priority Sailing business. She
became an ordained minister in 2009 so that she could
officially marry persons on her sailboat. Carolyn was
raised as a daughter of a Presbyterian minister, so took
to the role naturally. She is ordained through the
Universal Life Church.
Currently, Carolyn teaches sociology classes at
Brunswick Community College and writes a monthly
column for The State Port Pilot.
Carolyn is active in various community service activities
In 2013, she received the Salute to Senior Service
award in North Carolina. In 2016, Carolyn was honored
by being selected as Alumni of the Year by Chaffey High
School Alumni Association. She addressed the
graduating class at their baccalaureate service.
Carolyn approaches her ministry with a service ethic,
communication skills, and insightful compassion.
